Diary of Golden Eye – Fun Summer Days at Camp

After his long journey north to Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert, it was time for Golden Eye to take advantage of his time in the beautiful Northwoods of Minnesota and the opportunities that are so unique to camp. On the first day of activities, Golden Eye signed up for Archery and anxiously made his way from his bunk to the Archery Range. Not really knowing what to expect, he was greeted by the Archery Director and many of his fellow campers. They all knew that Golden Eye was new to Archery, and that the best way for him to learn was to give him a chance to shoot a bow and arrow right away. After the Archery Director explained the rules of the range, she handed Golden Eye a bow and arrow. He took his time, slowly closed one eye, aimed at the colorful target, and fired his first shot. Bull’s eye! He jumped up and down with joy, and all of his friends cheered for him at the top of their lungs. Whether beginner’s luck or because of the amazing help he received from his friends and the Archery Director, he wasn’t sure.  But he was sure of one thing… He loved Archery! Golden Eye couldn’t wait until the next morning when he would get the chance to shoot again! Later in the day, Golden Eye signed up for one of his favorite sports, Basketball.  One of the coolest things that Golden Eye realized about Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert was that healthy competition with friends is so much fun. Even in the winter in Arizona, it can be too hot for Golden Eye to practice his baller skills out on the court, so he figured that Basketball at camp in Minnesota would be perfect. After a tiring, neck and neck game, it came down to the final seconds. Golden Eye passed the ball to one of his teammates, watched her take the shot, and relaxed as he saw the winning basket swish into the hoop. Golden Eye was super excited that his team won, but made sure to shake his opponents’ hands and congratulate them on such an even game before they went to their next activities. After a long, exciting, and warm day, Golden Eye thought it would be a great idea to go on a run with some friends. Luckily, his friends were training for the “Hubert Marathon,” where by the end of the summer, campers attempt to run a total of 26.2 miles.  He did his warm-up, made sure to stretch, and got on the start line with the rest of his friends.  “3… 2… 1… Go,” his friend shouted! Golden Eye bolted off the line and, before he knew it, was already halfway around camp! By the time he finished the loop around camp, he was exhausted and took a break looking over gorgeous Lake Hubert. Golden Eye’s first day of activities at Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert was everything he thought it would be and more! He learned skills in persistence in Archery, perfected his sportsmanship in Basketball, and strived for excellence on his run around Camp Lake Hubert. Later that evening, with a huge grin on his face, Golden Eye drifted off to sleep in his bunk with grand expectations for the many days to come at camp. << Previous Golden Eye Post                      Next Golden Eye Post >>
